787TAX answers, in plain language, the tax questions almost everyone in Puerto Rico runs into sooner or later: do I have to file? how much will I owe? how do I charge IVU? what do I do with this letter from Hacienda? how do I pay CRIM? The name comes from the island's area code.
What you will find
- Step-by-step guides for individuals, businesses, property and CRIM, federal taxes and the IRS, problems with Hacienda and Act 60 incentives.
- Free calculators for Puerto Rico income tax, IVU, interest and surcharges, and self-employment Social Security tax. They run in your browser: we do not store what you type.
- A tax calendar, a glossary, a forms guide and news on every important change.
- Every page is available in Spanish and English. Use the language link at the top of any page to switch.
How we work
Every guide is written from official sources: the current text of the 2011 Internal Revenue Code and the Municipal Code, the Incentives Code, Hacienda's circular letters, administrative determinations, bulletins and instructions, CRIM and DDEC publications, and those of the IRS and Social Security. Sources are listed at the end of each page and figures that change carry their year. Read our editorial standards.
What we are not
787TAX is not the Puerto Rico Treasury Department (Hacienda), CRIM, the IRS or any government agency. We do not file returns, we do not represent taxpayers and we will never ask for your Social Security number or your SURI password. The information is educational and does not replace advice from a CPA, a licensed tax preparer or an attorney who knows your case.
